Milking a herd of 75 Jersey Fresian x cows Wattlebank Park Farm aims to reduce the amount of impact caused by traditional dairy farming.  Milking a small number helps to sustain the farm with less impact on the soil and the need for mass quantities of fertilizer.  The farm is self sustaining with grass growing enough to feed the dairy herd in the paddocks and also to produce enough hay and silage to feed out over the winter and summer season.  Using a once a day milking system also cuts down on the stress of animals producing a small quantity of milk than a normal twice a day milking system, the milk that is produces is of a higher quality so less wastage in the cheese making system.  The cows are milking in a herringbone shed that is powered by a 10kw solar system so help reduce our power foot print.
